Death to alpha males: The Exploits of Brigadier Gerard by Arthur Conan Doyle

Having turned the final page of Etienne Gerard’s memoirs, which detail his life as a heroic Hussar in the service of Napoleon, I mercifully happened upon Melinda Gates’ letter about her pride at raising a feminist son. Hurling Doyle’s testosterone fuelled tome at the farthest wall, a satisfying slap the only memory I cherish of his vile misogynistic claptrap, I said a silent prayer to Mother Gates, May Peace Be Upon Her, and rang the local gender reassignment clinic to increase my male-to-female hormone replacement therapy dosages.

Read these eight tales narrated by a so-called swashbuckling adventurer at your peril. You have been warned.
